Wallsteet going wireless with an Orinoco

Any help would be appreciated.
Bought a Silver OriNoco 802.11b PC Card, down loaded the driver ORiNOCO 72.smi software for the driver. Down loaded Airport 2.0.4 for OS 9. I am using OS 9.2.2
After I installed the driver the set up assistant window opened and stated that "No wireless networking card can be found. I have the PC Card in the PC slot and on the desk top it has an icon showing it in the slot calling it a "Wireless PC Card Model 0110". But the driver nor Airport is recognizing it. Could I have a faulty PC Slot? In the Control Strip I have the tabs for the ORiNOCO control panel etc that has an red X on it and the tab for Airport but it says that no card is installed.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

John

John,

Both the ORiNOCO and AirPort are drivers for this wireless card; use one or the other. I would personally use Apple's AirPort software. Since both are loading at startup, you may have a conflict between the two.

Launch the ORiNOCO installer again and see if it has an 'uninstall/remove ' option. If not, go throught the Control Panels and Extensions folder and drag the items to the trash, restart and empty the trash.

You can also open the Extensions Manager, select from the menu View > As Packages and uncheck all the ORiNOCO software, restart and test. You can then remove the items from the Extensions (Disabled) folder.

jpl,

Once more thank you for responding to mine and many others here.

Removed all of ORiNOCO files for the driver, only airport remains. The ORiNOCO PC Card shows up on the desktop, but Airport still does not recognize it. There are two areas on the tip of the card that look like they would light up in some way to maybe show activity etc, they are not lighting up. The card is communicating in the slot otherwise I don't think it would be showing up on the desktop. It is just that airport does not see it. I have used the lower and upper slots to see if that would help, but it made no changes. Either the card is defective or that the PC slots on the Wallstreet are.

Thanks for the time you give to these discussion boards.

Hi John,

I used to use my Orinoco Silver on my WallStreet with Orinoco driver installed and it worked perfectly. Now I am using it on my Pismo with OS 10.2.8. Today I searched my downloads and found the old link that I used to downloaded the driver few years ago:

http://support.proxim.com/cgi-bin/proxim.cfg/php/enduser/prntadp.php?p_faqid=1082&p_created=1070555278&psid=mbjPF6jh

I am not sure if this is the same driver you have downloaded. Anyway, if you have no luck with Airport, you might want to use Orinoco driver instead as it worked for me while I used it on my WallStreet with OS 9.2.2. I am not sure about the Airport driver as I have never tried it.

I hope this could help you a little bit.

Thomas
