use Time Capsule in existing network

current configuration:
Apple Macbook (2009)
internet connection via planet.nl with wireless connection in the house
Airport Express connected to amplifier/loudspeakers for iTunes.
SO both internet connection and Airport Express connection run via wireless router in the house, provided by internet company.
I want to add Time Capsule as wireless back-up system.
Airport Utility program only recognizes only Airport Express and not Time Capsule.
What am I doing wrong?

macbook5.1, Mac OS X (10.6.2)

Welcome to the discussions!

If you have not configured your Time Capsule yet, it is creating a default wireless network with a name like "apple network abc123". Click the fan shaped Airport icon at the top of your screen and look for this network to join so that AirPort Utility will "see" the Time Capsule.

It's a bit easier to configure the Time Capsule if you temporarily connect an ethernet cable from your computer to one of the LAN <-> ports on the Time Capsule. AirPort Utility should "see" it that way as well and you don't have to worry about wireless for the configuration.

For most users, it is much easier to configure the Time Capsule using an ethernet cable from your computer to one of the LAN ports. Then you don't have to use wireless at all for the configuration. So, I would say try that first to see if that will allow you to configure the Time Capsule. You can disconnect the ethernet cable when you have it configured.

If you still want to try wireless for the configuration process, if you clicked "join other network" and the Time Capsule's default wireless network name did not appear, then you might try to make sure the Time Capsule is in a factory default condition.

Power down the Time Capsule for a few minutes
Hold in the reset button +and keep holding it in+ as you plug the power back in
Release the reset button after 10 seconds

Since you want to use it as a wireless backup device, you would configure it to "join" your existing wireless network.

additional info:
in-house network has WEP-128bits security code (26 characters).
Both my wireless printer, Airport Express use this security code without problems (MacBook also function without problems on this network; f.i. internet and e-mail)
Somebody told me that the time capsule does not support WEP-128 bits security code on the router of the wireless network.
This looks odd to me as everything else functions without problems on this code.
Can somebody clarify?
