One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned...

Please help me - I bought and ipod nano 5G 2 weeks ago and its been working fine until now.

When I connect it to the computer a message comes up saying "One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognise it". It won't charge (and is running low on battery) and doesn't appear in itunes

I've tried reinstalling and restarting everything but nothing seems to work.

Can anyone help me?

You should also try it with just the ipod connected via usb. The only other things connected should be the keyboard and mouse. See if it works at that point. If it does, you know you have some kind of usb conflict with something else.

You might also find that reinstalling the apple software will solve the issue for you. Here is an article from Apple to get you through it. The big one in your case might be "Apple Mobile Device Support"
