Numbers and an "IF" statement?

Ok so here is my problem. I have a home test i am taking for school and i want it to correct my answers automatically. In column "A" i have numbers 1-30 in column "B" i am typing my answer A-D. Is there a formula to use to do this? I would like it to show in column "C" the correct answer and change column "B" red if at all possible. I have taken C++ programing and Excel programing but Numbers is still new to me. Thanks for your time

I may be misunderstanding what you want but here is a start. To make it easier to do the conditional formatting of 30 rows, I suggest putting the color in column C, not column B. If the formatting is in column B you will have to manually edit all 30 of them. In column C, you can copy/paste the format to all the rows.

1. Put the correct answers in column D. You will hide this column after everything is set up.

2. In C1 put the formula =IF(B="","", IF(B=D,D,D&" ")) . This will make C1 blank until an answer is typed into B1. Then it will provide the correct answer (with a single space appended to the end if B has an incorrect answer).

3. Create a conditional format for C1 that is "if text contains a space then fill red".

4. Drag-fill or copy/paste C1 to the rest of the column.

5. Hide column D
