Disable all automatic text replacements

Just now, I was writing some text in Safari, and I had some bullet-points that I designated (a), (b), ©, (d) etc.

As you can see, the computer thought it was smarter than me, and replaced the third bullet point with a copyright-symbol.

How can I, once and for all, disable these automatic replacements?!? An ideal solution would be shell-scriptable, so that I can easily disable this crap after a new installation without spending ages clicking around some preference panes…

Thanks

By default, Safari should not do this. Text replacements are turned off in all applications by default.

You can either go to System Preferences -> Language & Text and turn off any replacements you don't want, or you can turn off all of them in Safari by control-clicking in a text-editing field (like the one you type messages in on this forum) and unchecking the Text Replacement item in the Substitutions sub-menu.
