Hook up MAcBook Pro to Samsung TV

I am reading conflicting information on the web as well as this forum regarding hooking up a MBP to a Samsung HDTV.

Can someone please offer the best solution?

Thank you very much for your help/direction.

Video quality will be the same with any of those options. Audio quality will be best with a digital connection, and surround sound will only be available with option 3 (assuming your TV set can receive a 5.1-channel signal). If the TV set produces fake 5.1-channel audio from a 2-channel stereo signal, it may not be able to use a real 5.1-channel signal. You'll have to consult the TV's manual or its manufacturer's web site to find out whether you could benefit from the adapter in option 3 or would be just as well off with the less expensive option 2 adapter.

To send the video signal alone to the TV, you need a standard HDMI male-to-male cable of the appropriate length and a mini-Displayport to HDMI adapter such as this:

http://www.monoprice.com/products/search.asp?keyword=5311&x=0&y=0

To send audio to the TV separately from video, you will need either a mini-TOSlink to TOSlink digital audio cable (if the TV has a TOSlink input) or a 3.5mm stereo headphone plug to 2 RCA plugs analog audio cable. Either can be found at any Radio Shack, Best Buy, etc.

To send 2-channel stereo audio plus video to the TV set via a single HDMI cable, you need an adapter like this plus a standard HDMI cable as above:

http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?cid=104&cp_id=10428&cs_id=1042802&pid=5969&seq=1&format=2

And to send 5.1-channel surround sound plus video to the TV in a single MDMI cable, buy this adapter and a standard HDMI cable:

Read your TV set's manual to see whether there is a particular HDMI input port you should use when connecting it to a computer, and for any other applicable instructions on setting it up.

Hi, sorry this seems kinda redundant since there seem to be a million threads on this, but so far I haven't gotten it to work.

I have a unibody late-2008 MacBook Pro using a MDP-DVI-HDMI to Samsung LN40750 setup. This actually used to work perfectly until about a few months ago, when my roommate attempted to connect her older MacBook Pro (with her mini-DVI-DVI instead of my MDP-DVI). Then it completely stopped working. The problem is, I also upgraded to Snow Leopard around that time, so I don't know which might've caused the problem. I was hoping it was a temporary Snow Leopard problem but nothing seems to have been released to fix it, and of course Samsung has no firmware updates.

I've replaced the HDMI cable and the MDP-DVI dongle is apple brand, but I can't figure out what is wrong. No bent pins, TV works fine with other HDMI input, I'm plugging it into HDMI 2 which is the designated PC input (although I've also tried with the other HDMI slots), refresh rate shouldn't be an issue since it's HDMI not VGA...

I'm just really frustrated because it used to work and now it doesn't and I have no explanation as to why. (And I cancelled cable so my TV is effectively a houseplant.) Please help?

You can use Mini DisplyPort to HDMI cable; Or Mini DisplyPort Adapter(Supports audio) + HDMI to HDMI cable.

See here: http://www.cablematters.com/pc-30-30-gold-plated-mini-displayport-male-to-hdmi-m ale-6-feet-cable.aspx

You can connect it directly from MBP to HDTV. But you know MBP can not output audio through Mini DisplyPort. If you want to get the audio, you need an adapter.

See here: http://www.cablematters.com/pc-56-26-mini-displayport-male-and-toslink-audiousb- male-to-hdmi-female-adapter.aspx

And the manual and how to connect are here:

http://www.cablematters.com/manual/101011.pdf

This product supports 5.1 channel audio.

If you don't require high quality audio, this product is a alternative choice:
