Black Border on Canvas

I'm sure this is something real simple, but I have a black border on the top and bottom of my canvas (Final Cut Pro 7) but not in the Viewer. It must be some simple setting I'm missing - any thoughts on how to correct it?

Much appreciated.

Hey there

I did check the settings - the video is 1920 x 1080 (HD 16:9). If I put it to anamorphic the video adds a grey border on top of the black border. I checked the Item Properties and viewed the clip settings with V1 on the sequence and everything seems to match. The video in the canvas was fine last week but changed when I tried to add a border to a still photo. I must have inadvertently switched something and for the life of me can't figure out what I did.

try this

1 create a new sequence
2 drop a piece of the 1920x1080 footage into that sequence, say yes to change settings
3 once that footage is in the timeline and settings are applied, delete the piece of footage
4 copy your troubled timeline, all the footage, stills, audio.
5 paste it into the new sequence you created

all the footage should match, if thats even the issue.

"I checked the Item Properties and viewed the clip settings with V1 on the sequence and everything seems to match."

This is incorrect. What are the item properties of the sequence not of the clip on V1. Select the sequence in the browser and go to item properties. Please provide exact and complete information of what it says.

The gray bar simply means the canvas window is not sized to match the aspect ratio of the image. It doesn't mean anything. The black bars may indicate that the material is being letterboxed, but without seeing your computer or getting complete information it's hard to tell. Maybe you can post screenshots of the item properties of the clips and of the sequence.

Tom -

I took some screen shots of the the canvas with the black bars next to the viewer that doesn't have them, along with the Item Properties of the sequence and the clip itself. Is there anyway to post these pics in this discussion?

Bubsy -

I tried what you suggested -good idea - when I put a new clip in the new sequence, the canvas looked fine - no black bars on top and bottom and I thought we were on to something. But when I tried to copy the entire timeline into the new sequence, we got the same thing as before - black bars on the top and bottom of the canvas.

Let's see if this works. I tried taking screen shots of the Black Borders in the Canvas. The shots include the Item Properties in the Clip and the Sequence. The video seems to be slightly compressed when compared to the Viewer that doesn't have this problem. The video in the Canvas is Fit to Screen. If anyone recognizes what this black border is and can help me get rid of it, that'd be great.

Thanks
