iPod Classic 80gb won't sync past certain limit and freezes computer.

Title says it all. Freshly formatted and restored. I went to sync it and it got to around 8gigs of music and then froze. I tried to eject it through iTunes and it froze. Eject through finder, and finder froze, eject through Disk Utility, froze. I can't eject it. It won't sync. What do I do?

Same problem.

After reading through a couple threads here and browsing several google search results, I'm pretty sure this particular issue is caused by an actual hardware problem. My iPod has been making faint grinding noises when attempting to sync ever since this problem started.

Sorry guys, until someone can provide a solution, I think our iPods are FUBAR.

Me threee!
120gb ipod classic, running xp.
Freezes usually between 1.5 - 2gb (never the same) then pauses. It may add one or two more tracks if left for an hour or more but thats it.
Getting both the (-50) and (-13010) errors for which there seems to be no fix. Have tried the '5 R's' a billion times.

Is there any resolve?? I'm losing my mind!

Oh man, add me to the list!!! I have had the same problem since I got my new iPod Classic 160 gb for Christmas. I am ready to throw it out the window. I NEVER had a problem with my 5th gen 30gb. When I try to update my iPod it would start to sync then freeze iTunes. Could not do a thing with it. At times it froze my computer as well so that I could not even turn it off, I had to actually unplug it. I have reset and restored that **** thing countless times and this week I spent days trying to get it to work. I have uninstalled, reinstalled, uninstalled again to downgraded to version 8 only to find that when I plugged in the iPod it HAS to have version 9. So I upgraded but only to 9.0. I'm afraid now to do anything on itunes. I even had to completely delete my itunes library on the cumputer and every file Apple file I could find. There is only one computer in my house that recognizes my ipod without freezing and that is one I have to use to restore it. I am slowly adding music back but everytime I plug it in I pray to the iPod God to keep it running.

I think a workaround solution has been found on this thread
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2266887&tstart=0

I followed these instructions last night and was able to sync about 7.5GB of my music back onto my ipod in small groups of about 200 songs and haven't experienced any freezing.

However I had been experiencing the crashes at around 14GB so i am going to have a try a syncing my ipod beyond this tonight when i get in from work

I hope this helps

Ok, I have the answer to this question. I'll start off by saying your iPod's are done for. The hard drives in your iPods are screwed, sorry.. (But there is hope)... I've dealt with the same problems most of you have for a long time. I had two 80 gig Classics, and one of em would stop holding music around 14 gigs and freeze everything. The other would do the same, at about 40 gigs or so. This made me angry, I can imagine you all feel my pain. I tried everything, converting my entire 190 gig music collection to the proper format, deleting assumed corrupted files, restoring my iPods so many times I lost count, etc. I got fed up and started looking for answers on the web. (After two useless visits to the Apple store).. I eventually stumbled onto this forum and read everything you people had to say about this issue, and it further ****** me off that no one from Apple has tried to help. Nor has anyone said said anything useful. So here is your best option: Call this number(1-800-692-7753), which is the customer service hotline, or send a complaint to customer service via this site. You may be put on hold for a while if you call but trust me, it's worth it to talk to someone who knows what the **** they're talking about. Once you get someone, explain your case and your irritation with this problem, list inconveniences caused by this, etc. (Do this calmly and be polite about it, being a dick will get you nowhere). They may not do this for all of you, but I sent a very in depth message to customer support and they called me about 5 minutes later. The end result, they are replacing both of my iPods. (My iPods are not under warranty), But they did. I just sent in my old useless ones for two brand new iPods. I am extremely happy with my results, and I hope they will do the same for all of you. Good luck-

Okay I'll add myself to the list. about 3 gigs and I'm done. I read in one of the other areas that there is belief that this could be due to path / file name lengths but I looked through some of my library and I can't see that being my problem. Does it sound funny that so many 80 gb Ipods are outright dying coincidentally when they were synched with ITunes 9?

If I had an answer I'd give it up. Next for me is a complete reinstall of Itunes albeit I don't hold a lot of faith in that either.

Add me to that list of people having problems. I brought my IPod 2 days ago and im having sync problems. It syncs maybe 1gb of songs to my Ipod Classic (80GB). Ive tried restoring it to the factory settings and still the same problems. I have also tried different software that people have used on the web and still it doesnt work. When syncing my computer, either crashes or my Ipod just says ok to disonnect. Im glad im not the only person having problems and what i have read is that Apple are being un-helpful, (its not good when we spend £100's on their products and their customer service is S*!) This is the 3rd Ipod ive owned, Ive had an Ipod Nano (which worked brilliantly when it wasn't crashing) and a Ipod Touch 16GB which is completely screwed it doesn't play music and the left speaker has gone the only thing that works is safari. Now this, I have really lost faith in Apple!

iPod Classic 80gb won't sync past certain limit and freezes computer.
