Lexmark S605 Says it's offline, but it isn't!

Hi. I have just set up my lovely new WiFi printer. Installation went like a dream. Connected through my Time Capsule. All messages say installation successful, but as soon as I try to print, I get a message saying "Printer is currently offline".

Does anyone have any ideas?

I am having a similar problem with an S608. I got it to work and install once, but now, not so much.
1) I can find the printer by going to its IP address in a browser and can ping it from Terminal,
2) used various combinations of uninstalling the lexmark software and re-setting the printer to factory default and re-doing the wireless setup wizard
3) if I delete the printer from the print & fax preference window, it does not see it at all.

Any thoughts

I also had the same problem.

Two keys: 1) make sure the USB cable is disconnected from the printer. If it is disconnected from your computer, but is still in your printer, the printer will "think" you want to print while being connected to the computer. 2) make sure you restart the printer.

Downloading the most current Lexmark drivers also helped me.

I'm not sure this will help those in this thread, but I happened upon this due to the same problem with my Epson 2100 printer. It's always worked well running with os x Tiger on a Firewire cable, but after having installed Snow Leopard, it was telling me that the printer was always offline despite being able to verify printer status & ink levels. Very odd. To cut a long story short, I eventually got it working by simply swapping the Firewire for USB cable.

(After shelling out good money for a new OS though, I don't expect to have to spend ages by trial and error trying to find solutions for issues that should never occur).

Don't use Lexmark Set-up assistant or call Lexmark. The assistant is buggy and the Lexmark people will run you in circles reinstalling everything 15 times.

In System Preferences under print and fax.
Hold down the ctrl key and click on the printer list.
Reset printing system.
Then.
1) make sure the USB cable is disconnected from the printer. If it is disconnected from your computer, but is still in your printer, the printer will "think" you want to print while being connected to the computer.
2) make sure you restart the printer.

After a morning of beating my head against the wall this fixed me in 30 secs. :]

THANKYOU that was brilliant. My issue was similar- Installed a second printer to keep up with demanding work load. S605 was non responsive (said offline)
I read your thread and saw the USB cord and knew that HAD to be it, as the second printer is NOT wifi, and was still connected. After unplugging and restarting the s605 I had a flawless print--
Thanks again
