Firewall blocking internet?

Recently I've had problems accessing the internet and found that it can be fixed by setting my firewall from "Set access for specific services..." to "Allow all incoming connections." The connection is then made, and I can once again put the firewall up. I've repeated the problem and solution in several different locations, all of which were allowing internet to other computers and had allowed me internet fine previously. I also made sure my computer was up to date and still experienced it.

It just keeps happening! Sometimes when the computer wakes from sleep, sometimes in the middle of a session, I'll suddenly lose the internet and have to "Allow all" again. Naturally it's annoying to have to do this several times a day, and I don't want to just take down my firewall entirely.

This started happening just after my computer came back from repairs (they replaced the screen, disc drive, and trackpad). I can't think of why this would affect my firewall settings or network connections though.

Any ideas why it could be happening or how I can fix it? Please help.

Thanks for the suggestion. I decided to try it the next time I ran into the problem, while the internet was down. I followed the instructions successfully (I got the message "Flushed all rules."), but the internet access was not restored; I had to turn the firewall off and on again. I then waited to see if the problem happened again -- and it did. The next time the computer went to sleep, it lost internet upon waking. 😟

Also, flushing the rules didn't erase any of the applications I have listed to allow incoming connections. Not sure if it should have.

Any other ideas for fixes?

Okay, I tried this one as well, but again nothing appears to have changed in my firewall window of System Preferences (all the applications are still listed).

I did notice something a little odd in the Terminal. Instead of starting with my user name at the beginning of the line, it was myname-2 (although typing ls indeed listed all the usual folders in my home folder). I'm not sure if that's affecting things, or what could be preventing the sudo command from working.

Problem still persisting. 😟
