Fan alternatives...cooling pad?

About six weeks ago a bit of juice spilled on the Macbook, after a day of power drying I got it up and working. Unfortunately the fans never started working again and the computer now obviously overheats and shuts down quite often...

I brought it into the Genius Bar hoping it would just be a simple fan replacement...no such luck. The logic board needs to be replaced and I don't see the point in shelling out $800.

What options do I have? I've looked into cooling pads and found very mixed reviews.

dirwuf--

You can get a coolpad; they range in price from $20-$50 USD. So you know, I use one as I work from my MacBook.

However...

A coolpad isn't designed to chill the unit, just reduce heat. It won't replace the fan that quit; it's designed to help the fan. If your fan isn't working, and the logic board is not in the greatest of shape, I would question how long the unit will go before expiring. And having lost a Dell to a slow, heat related death, trust me--I'd be backing up my data +right now+ and starting to price a new Mac. Because I suspect a coolpad will only delay the inevitable.

Doc

The upside to losing the Dell was getting a MacBook, however.

I assume you don't have AppleCare? Because as far as I know, these little accidents are covered.

If not, you have two options in my opinion:

There are people on Ebay looking exactly for such machines. They clean them up, or use the parts that are still OK, such as the screen. Your laptop could still be valuable on eBay and you could use the money for a new Macbook.

The other option would be to find a third party repairer. There are lots of options here, google for it. Edit: another user mentioned http://www.myservice.com/ in another thread.
