Compass requires data?

G'day all,

A quick search yielded no specific answer to this question, please forgive me if it's already answered elsewhere...

When I use the compass and select "Do not detect my current location" does the app still download any data?

I'd like to be able to use the compass feature in remote areas without incuring excess data fees that are not covered 3's data cap.

The compass does not use data. It asks to use your location to interact with the Map app when you press the icon in the bottom left-hand corner.
At that point, the map will use data to display your position

While the compass will work, the latitude & longitude will not update without a data connection. If no data connection is available, the coordinates shown in the compass app will be the last location that a data connection was available.
