Were you able to install Boot Camp 3.0 onto your machine using the 64-bit Win 7, so you could then install the update to 3.1?

I am having similar issues. It seems that Apple is only supporting 64-bit versions of Windows OS using specific models ( http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1846). I have given up trying to use the Boot Camp software and simply installed all the drivers from the OS X disk in order to use the x86 version of 7 Professional.

Hi there,

I have a late 2007 white MacBook, 2.4GHz, with 2GB of RAM.

I just managed to fix the issue of Bootcamp 3.1 constantly appearing in Software Update on my Windows 7 64-bit machine. After I had successfully installed Bootcamp 3.0 (by right-clicking on the Bootcamp64 installer on my Snow Leopard install disk and selecting "Troubleshoot compatibility), I originally used the standalone updater for 3.1 which I downloaded from http://support.apple.com/kb/DL979. I think this is what caused my issue, as whenever Software Update would run it would not detect that I had 3.1 installed.

This solved the issue for me:

- Uninstall Bootcamp from Add/Remove Programs
- Install Bootcamp 3.0 from the OS X install disc and reboot
- Run Software Update to install Bootcamp 3.1, NOT THE STANDALONE INSTALLER

After doing this, Bootcamp 3.1 no longer appears when I run Software Update.

Hope that helps someone!

I have my doubts about the testing that went into this... have you tried Microsoft Installer Cleanup Utility? often the only thing that does work.

Fear that someone might use Boot Camp 3.1 without buying Snow Leopard is preventing it from being a normal support installer for motherboard like anyone else's. In fact, I would like to see ability to load a mobo package BEFORE installing Windows, or at least without needing to update something that is six months old, buggy, came out pre-Windows 7.

Tried to help my friend install bootcamp 3.1 on his Macbook Pro running 10.6.2, Windows 7 32 bit and Bootcamp 3.

We downloaded the 32 bit installer for 3.1 to the Win 7 desktop and then ran the installer. The only visual feedback we got was a progress window while Nvidia drivers were installed. No other indication that anything had happened. How can we tell if Bootcamp 3.1 was fully installed?

When in Win 7 the Macbook function keys don't control the hardware (screen brightness, keyboard backlight,..); that's what he was hoping would now work with Bootcamp 3.1 in Windows 7.

Same here. I would love to know the answer to this.

I am receiving the same error when attempting to install BootCamp Update 3.1, using the standalone installer or the Apple update utility, same result...

"boot camp update installer has stopped working"

User uploaded file

13" Unibody Macbook Pro
Windows 7 Professional x64 (BootCamp)
Windows boots as primary OS (I don't use OS X at all)

I have also tried reinstalling Boot Camp 3.0 using my Snow Leopard CD, then attempting the install of Update 3.1, no go.

I'm having a similar issue. I have a first generation aluminium iMac. It runs 10.6.2 and I was running Windows Vista, but I upgraded to Windows 7 last year. I also purchased a Magic Mouse, which WIndows does not recognise. I was forced to get a corded mouse to try and upgrade to Boot Camp 3.1

However, software update did not show the update so I downloaded it manually. Whenever I tried to install in Windows 7 the app would ask permission to run, then nothing for a long time and then an error message saying 'this program might not have installed properly'. I reinstalled Windows and Boot Camp drivers (everytime it gave an error message saying it could not install Apple bluetooth hardware as the device was disconnected). This time the update did appear in software update but whenever it asked to restart the machine the update would still appear in software update as though it had not installed properly. If I try a manual install I have the same problem as above. I've tried with my Macbook also, which is still running Vista and I have exactly the same problem re. the 3.1 update.

Anyone got any ideas how I can get it working? All I really want is for the magic mouse to work.

I have fixed my problem and Bootcamp 3.1 now installed on iMac 27".

The issue was multiple display adapters. Make sure there is only 1 listed. I removed the remote desktop display adapter in Device Manager and then the update would run. I ran it from the manual download to save time downloading it again.

This was a problem for Bootcamp 2.1 and Bootcamp 3 as well.

I hope this help others.

I'm not yet on Win 7. But the conflicting Display adapter caused me an issue when I went from Leopard to Snow Leopard on my MacBook and the upgrade to Bootcamp 3.0 (Which I had briefly forgotten)

LogMeIn and Novell Zenworks and other remote desktop applications as well as some games install alternate display adapters that may be causing the issue.

I had tried to uninstall Bootcamp 3, this is what I ended doing.
1.) Checked and removed offending Display Adapter.
2.) Reinstalled Bootcamp 3 from the iMac Install DVD
3.) Ran Bootcamp 3.1 exe file I had already downloaded.

Now my Magic Mouse works which is all I wanted in the first place.
