Best WYSIWYG web editors?

I have searched online but still want to see if I can get forum input.

Most say Dreamweaver which I don't understand...I have it and I think it's terrible and never works for me when I try to edit pages, it definitely doesn't turn into "wysiwyg" haha

I wouldn't mind a WYSIWYG for flash web pages, I read Contribute can edit any web page.

Is this even the right forum?

Thanks

Most WYSIWYG editors I've found are overrated. For one thing, they force coding of HTML on you that may create rendering you don't want to happen.

It is better to learn HTML and code raw, with a text editor that allows preview in multiple browsers, than attempt to allow some editor force coding upon you. You get better control over supporting w3.org standards, and better compatibility across multiple web browsers. http://www.barebones.com/ I've found makes two products that fit the bill, namely Textwrangler & BBEdit.

http://browsershots.org/

is a website that lets you look at your page and see how it renders across dozens of web browsers.

http://www.webmonkey.com/

offers you all the coding tools you need to know regarding coding websites.

I've tried Dreamweaver, Pagemill, Frontpage, GoLive, but have always gone back to Barebones software.

I agree with a brody. However, I use Xcode to build projects containing all my files. I then use XSL to generate multiple HTML files, all with the same menus, footers, etc., from a set of XML definition files.

However, I don't deny that a good WYSIWYG web editor would be a great thing to have. My setup is overkill for most people and I would have no problem doing prototype work in a WYSIWYG editor and then tweaking it. I'm not proud.

I was a big fan of Claris Home Page in the day. The now-discontinued NVU looked promising. Try downloading Kompozer, a fork of NVU. I just downloaded it. It, too, has promise - and some major bugs. <sigh>
