How do you get Numbers to read CSV data?

Try just dragging the file over the table where you want it to be and letting it go. When you selected the text in the table cell and then pasted the CSV file, Numbers may have assumed that you were just adding text, not filling a table.

Reading carefully the *Numbers User Guide*, you would know that Numbers is able to import CSV files, not to accept a clipboard containing CSV datas.

I wish to add that CSV files aren't always containing comma separated values.
Numbers is able to import two kinds of CSV files.
If the decimal separator in use is the period, values must be separated by commas.
If the decimal separator in use is the comma, values must be separated by semi-colons.

This might be of interest to anyone experiencing the same problem I did and googling for it;

I had Numbers import a CSV file with only rows, meaning the comma-separated values didn't translate into columns. My guess is the local settings interfering.

Anyhow, dragging the file onto the Numbers canvas worked and gave me the complete spreadsheet with columns.
