Attention Windows XP users. DO NOT UPDATE TO BOOT CAMP 3.1

I can confirm this. I had Bootcamp 3.0 installed on Windows XP SP3, and after updating to Bootcamp 3.1 the OS has continuously failed to boot normally. If I try a normal boot the blue XP status bar freezes partway through loading. I can boot safemode, but uninstalling the NVidia drivers there did not help anything. I'm fairly knowledgeable about Windows overall and I've been completely unable to do anything to get normal boot restored. I would attempt to use system restore but I'm now getting an error on that.

It's not the end of the world since I don't really have much going on in the XP partition and can scrap it and restart, but this is sorta annoying to be stuck with a full reinstall due to an update.

I confirm aswell, my windows xp is STILL messed up. My graphics are TERRIBLE. And did all the following things listed too.

Yup, me too. First it said Apple Keyboard wasn't recognized ERROR. So I quit a couple times, could't find any online help, and tried again (4th attempt). Just ignored message but installer seemed to continue running. Finally finished (with no user feedback that anything was happening), but now earphones won't work and front speakers can't be deselected. Reinstalled Realtek dricers, No help. I've wasted several hours tryig to solve this . NOT HAPPY!

I just sadly found this out...

I just got the Magic Mouse, and was wanting to use it with my Windows XP partition. Well, searching around, I found out that 3.1 updated the drivers to allow me to. Welps, sadly, I found out the hard way, to not do this.

Everything. I mean EVERYTHING worked flawlessly. My keyboard never had an issue, my trackpad and cursor were perfect, etc. My trackpad acted normally with two finger scroll and right clicks by either tapping with two fingers or right clicking the lower right hand portion of the trackpad.

I did the 3.1 upgrade, and it said that a lot of devices related to my keyboard, multitouch, mouse, etc. weren't working, in addition to the magic mouse being found, but a fatal error causing it to be unable to install.

Also, when I open up the boot camp control panel in Windows, the trackpad option is missing. I now cannot right click with the trackpad in XP. Can't click in the lower right hand corner, cannot tap with two fingers, nothing...totally unacceptable.

Also noticed that my keyboard has the minimal functionality now, the function key does not respond, and every time I restart my computer, the brightness is at max. Ridiculous.

When I am moving the cursor around with the trackpad, the cursor is laggy and feels like it is jumping or something. I have to use a USB mouse to not go crazy with the cursor lag and stickiness!

Only thing the 3.1 update is turn off the LED inside my headphone jack, but that was the least of my concerns.

I can't right click at all. Totally frustrating and unacceptable. I am downloading 3.0 right now, and hopefully it'll allow me to downgrade over it...Apple really dropped the ball on this one...

I'm running XP SP3 and haven't noticed any trackpad issues, but I never use the trackpad. I've not had any graphics troubles, either.

However, I have noticed that the keyboard is screwed up. The arrow keys default to home/page up-down/end, and when I use an external keyboard, only the right-side CTRL/Windows/Fn/Alt keys work. I've tried multiple remapping programs, and it seems that the keyboard driver in Bootcamp 3.1 simply does not recognize any signals from those keys.

It's sad. I was just about to upgrade to a new machine, and was leaning strongly towards Mac hardware. If this isn't corrected soon, I very much doubt that will happen.

I´m very curious, that this fact (it is one!) was never told at any other place! XP-users on bootcamp got the desaster, like me, when they install the 3.1 bootcamp-software over the 32bit XP-installation.

I've fought through the upgrade horror and things have more or less stabilized; there is no keyboard input from fn. keys.

but the thing that is the creepiest of all about this is that you can't find any evidence of BC 3.1 on the XP partition at all (except installer BootCamp 3.132-bit.exe). There's a Boot Camp 3.0 folder. But if you do a search on the C drive you get bubkas looking for ANY instance of Boot Camp 3.1. The only way I know I'm running 3.1 is that I can access the Mac partition

What bullsh*t. The Boot Camp 3.1 update killed the trackpad, keyboard and bluetooth on my XP Pro SP3 install. I've tried to reinstall those drivers, but no luck.

Is it possible to delete Boot Camp - and all the Apple drivers - and then reinstall Boot Camp from XP using the OS X dvd?

Where are the Apple prima donnas in all this?

How typical that I find these postings AFTER Boot Camp 3.1 has been installed....and naturally Windoze closed every app I was running while this #$@%ing updater updated XP while I was doing my work. I swear if it wasn't for QuickBooks Canada I have no reason to run Windoze XP....effing bs

Well, am I ever thankful that I found this thread. I downloaded BC 3.1 before I partitioned my disk for XP and the download went into the download folder on Mac. A couple days later I created the partition for XP & everything has worked just fine except the Magic Mouse doesn't work. I came online finally to figure out what to do with the 3.1 download and, with a stoke of luck, I found this thread. I am so glad the 3.1 download is still on the Mac partition and I am wondering now whether I should just get rid of it. Am only wondering because it took hours to download it. Hope someone can give me some advice. In the meantime, I am just going to get a new USB mouse.

Just happened to come across this thread and checked to see what version I have of Boot camp and it looks like I still have version 3.0.1.
Anyway I don't know if this might have any bearing on the problems you are having but I checked on the Boot Camp downloads and I noticed they have an update 3.1 for Windows 32 bit and another one for Windows 64 bit.
Could it be that the wrong one was used, just a thought.

Personally, I think Apple did not make it clear what that 3.1 update is for. The page says you need either XP or Vista - but the description of the download says it is an update for Windows 7. I think that is where the problem is and it makes sense to me. If you have XP, then a Windows 7 update is going to really screw things up. I tried Windows 7 and didn't like it. I had to buy XP in order to put it on my Mac but the cost was well worth it as it is a good OS & my older programs work with that but not with 7.

I revently installed Bootcamp on my new Mac Mini. I installed the drivers, and enverything was going fine, but now. I cant even Boot my mac to Mac Os Or XP. When it comes up and I hold the key, It just always boots to XP, which never boots.XP freezes at the Log in page so I can't log in. Is there anyway to force mac OS to boot instead of XP?
