No Sound in iTunes.

Hello, I'm running OSX 10.6.2 and my iTunes app has recently refused to... well, play tunes. The play header moves, but there's no sound on music or movies. I checked the volume slider, it's all the way up. I've tried deleting and reinstalling. I thought maybe deleting and restoring from my Time Capsule would work, but no go. iTunes has no sound.

Any ideas as to why? Thanks in advance.

I have the same problem, except no sound in just movies and tv shows after the first 3-5 minutes. I have tried every solution listed above and nothing worked. I even tried right clicking on list of tv episode and found the volume in the middle of the -100 and +100 and moved the bar to +100 and restarted iTunes and the tv episode played for 5 minutes and then it was back to the same ole same ole of no audio. I tried with "Direct Sound" and with "Windows Audio" and restarting and neither one of these options worked. Plugging in headsets and unplugging headsets did nothing. I don't know what MIDI is so that was the only thing I didn't try cause couldn't find anything but in the Playback settings under Edit --> Preferences. I'm using iTunes in Win 7. Everything was working fine until the update and then today there was another update for iTunes and I was hoping that would fix the issue but still more of the same with no solution in sight.

sound preferences are ok - audio will play in other apps like Quicktime, VLC, or any other third party media player.

The volumes up, and there no secondary output around, so I don't even have that option to choose in iTunes I'm just using the built-in ones with the iMac. Mute isn't on.

It's really weird that iTunes is the only thing that doesn't have sound. every other program is fine.

Hi,
You might need to go to a songs preferences, this was a problem I had on a few of my songs, but never my entire library. Once you right click the system preferences of that individual song should come up and it will have volume and EQ control(also a few other specs that let you finely tweek your song). Adjust it from there and see what happens.

I think I just stumbled onto the answer.

Play a movie (mine play in full-screen mode) and check the volume slider on the display toward the bottom of the screen. Even though iTunes volume slider was all the way up, this slider was all the way down and when I moved it up, the sound came back. Try it and see if that's the problem.

Hey, this just happened to me. Youtube etc all had sound, my videos in iTunes had sound as well.

But no sound from any songs in iTunes.

Problem: I had shut off my Computer Speakers when using my iPhone's "Remote" while in another room in my apartment.

Solution: Bottom right hand corner of iTunes. The speaker drop down list select Computer Speakers.

When will Apple's technicians finally pull off their ipod earbuds long enough to address this issue? For newbies, these Apple Support discussions are useless, since actual Apple technicians pay no attention. They've got us just complaining away in circles to each other. I downloaded the movie "Avatar" for visiting kids last night, and attempted to play it for them on the computer screen in iTunes. How disappointing to the children that there was no sound. Everyone of us was robbed of $15. Wake up, Apple.

I have this problem too, what I just figured out is that you can just play any song you have in your itunes library from a different media player. So I just went to my start menu > All programs > Quicktime (since that was downloaded with itunes, you should have that too..) > then within quicktime go to file drop down menu > open file (or press ctrl o) > then in my music you should see a itunes folder, so double click that > go into itunes media > go into music > all your songs should be there, make sure you click the bottom drop down menu (files of type:) and change it to all files (or just audio files)

No Sound in iTunes.
