When I return to Apple TV after watching another channel, or having the TV on standby, the menu screen has disappeared, and the only way to restore it is to switch the Apple TV off and on again at the mains, which is inconvenient if I am downloading a movie.
Surely you can download with the Apple TV powered up but with the TV switched off, and get back to the menu when you want.

Yes you can. What you do with the TV shouldn't affect the TV. You certainly shouldn't have to reboot every time you watch something else. Do you have a screensaver on?

this is a bug that was introduce with v3.x software.
change the appletv resolution to 720p and you won't get the problem.
this is a workaround until the problem is fixed.

I use iPhoto as a screen saver, I've just changed my screen resolution and that seems to work.
    Thanks
