I'm trying to download the latest version of iTunes onto my computer and I keep getting this error message:
An error occurred during the installation of assembly 'Microsoft.VC80.CRT,version="8.0.50727.4053",type=win32",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3 b9a1e18e3b",processorArchitecture="x86". Please refer to Help and Support for more information. HRESULT: 0x800736B3.

Windows told me to ask Apple.

Any idea what that means? I cannot DL itunes, which renders my ipod useless unless it's fixed. Thanks!

    I also have this issue, does anyone have any fixes for this before I format the whole laptop?

    Most folks with that "Microsoft.VC80.CRT........" error have also not been getting Windows updates. The Windows updates fail with different messages, if you go look at your windows update history.

    Get that fixed, and itunes should download and install OK.

    I have this same problem with iTunes version 9.0.3 What I don't remember is the exact error code at the end of the message. But I got the Microsoft CRT error.
    I have a clean Windows installation because I changed my hard disk yesterday.

    A clean install doesn't equal an up-to-date install. I could install Vista or XP and still need to get windows updates that have been released after the OS disc was created. I assume windows 7 has released updates, as well.

    Anyway - write down the exact error code and google on it.

    Hello. This worked for me, having downloaded iTunes from Apple website:

    1. Download and install 7-zip;
    2. Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe icon and choose 7-zip> "Extract to iTunes\";
    3. Next, double-click AppleApplicationSupport.msi and install;
    4. Install everything but iTunes;
    5. Install iTunes;
    6. This should be it .
