Double Entry all Songs

One day I open ITunes and see every entry is doubled. I checked the "Info" on a few and it is the same file for each double entry. I had not used ITunes for a while, so I don't recall doing anything to create this. What is the easiest way to straighten this out? I don't sync to anything. I do run a RAID system but I have for years without this issue. I have ver 9.0.2.25.

Go into list view and right-click on the column headers. Make sure *Date Added* has a check mark next to it.

Sort by Date Added. Those duplicate probably all got added on the same date somehow. Sorting by Date Added lets you click the top one and bottom one and delete them all at once, instead of one by one.

Use Date Added with the *Show Duplicates* option.

Just be sure not to delete the actual file!

I don't understand this response. How do you get rid of doubles?? I can follow the Date Added column stuff, but then what do you do? You said, "lets you click the top one and bottom one and delete them all at once, instead of one by one.Just be sure not to delete the actual file!" If you click the top one (do you mean track by "one"?) and the bottom one, that's both of them. If you delete them, they're both gone. Why do doubles suddenly appear? I was just trying to put them in the same order as the album and suddenly I have doubles. Boo hoo!

Usually the library is sorted by Artist, or perhaps Album column, and things are roughly alphabetical.
Duplicates show up like

Asong
Asong
Bsong
Bsong
Csong
Csong
......
Zsong
Zsong

Going through and choosing every other song is tedious. With sorting by Date Added, it looks more like this
Asong
Bsong
Csong
Zsong
.......
Asong <------ (top song, assuming this is the batch of duplicates you want to remove)
Bong
Csong
Zsong <------(bottom song, another duplciate added on the same day)

Just make sure you are getting rid of the one you really want to get rid of, and pay attention if you get asked whether to keep files or send ot recycle bin!

Here is a similar apple article that as a different screenshot that may help you.

If you had to start over, there's really no reaon to go through itunes and remove the duplicates now.
Just start over yet again with a brand-new library and re-add everything to itunes.

Close itunes and delete the iTunes Library.itl file. Since itunes can't run without it, it will make a new one next time you start the program.

Or you can do the shift-start if itunes and tell it to create a new library, but depending on your itunes preferences, that might make dupcliate files on your hard drive.
