Transfer contacts from SE W880i to iPhone

Hi.

I'd like to get myself an iPhone 3GS. I would like to keep all my Contacts accumulated during years in a Sony-Ericsson W880i.

Can I transfer these contacts with minimal loss to an iPhone?

You don't mention the OS of your computer but whichever it is you would need to sync your existing phone with that to get all your contacts into a supported address book on your Mac or PC (Address Book or Outlook). Once they are on your computer you can then sync them to your iPhone through iTunes when you get it.

If you ensure that the contacts are saved on the sim that you use in your SE W880i, then put this sim in the iPhone, there is an option in Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendar to "Import sim contacts". This will do exactly as the name suggests.

I use WinXP. I synced till now with a software called MyPhoneExplorer 1.7.4, which is specific for Sony Ecrisson mobiles. I have no clue how I shall proceed. I don't want to retype the entire contacts again into iTunes/iPhone!

Yes, but the SIM card has less flields top save contact data in. Parts of the contacts get lost. That's this solution might work, but with loss of data.

Does Outlook on the PC import vCards, like Address Book on a Mac does?

If so, it'll be very easy. Just Bluetooth the whole Phonebook from the W880i to the PC and then import the .vcf file into Outlook. Then sync from Outlook to the iPhone via iTunes.

*Contacts > Options > More > Advanced > Send all contacts > Via Bluetooth*

According to the blurb MyPhoneExplorer 1.7.4 can sync with Outlook so if you do that then you should be able to sync Outlook to your iPhone via iTunes

I exported all contacts (tigether) in one .vcf file and imported everything in Outlook Express. Subsequent import in iTunes and sync to iPhone was flawless. All went pretty smooth.
