Creating minus one tracks

Hello,

I am wondering whether GarageBand (09 version) can be used to create minus one tracks out of professionally recorded audio files (i.e. mp3 or mp4) - that is, songs from iTunes or a CD which I've imported into GarageBand. So if I import 'Aint No Sunshine' (Bill Withers) for example, can I edit out (reduce the volume?) of just the vocal track so that my final, saved output is a minus one track (without vocals) which can be used for practice purposes. I realize that the song won't be broken into instrument-specific tracks (as it would with my own recordings) but is it possible to edit out the frequencies which carry the vocal line? Many thanks.
