can't unbold list numbers/letters

I have a document (a multiple choice exam) in list format with questions and 5 answers (first level numbers, second level small letters). I had previously changed one of each of the 5 level 2 items in each list to bold to indicate the correct answer on a multiple choice exam. When I change the text, the level letter also changes to bold. To finalize the exam for the students, I need to unbold the correct answer. I have found that on some documents of this sort, I cannot unbold the list lettering at teh beginning of the line (giving away the correct answer to the students). If I select the entire document or just that line, the list lettering stays bold. Any suggestions how to get rid of it?

Those suggestions work, but don't really solve the problem. The first works if I create a new list style and then apply it to everything. Unfortunately, that also takes all the blank lines between questions and makes them list items. So I would have to go back and remove 50 of them to get the numbering correct. The second suggestion works on individual items, but I would then also have to go back and individually alter all 50 bolded answers. Yuck! This should work with a select all!
