Digitally signing and encryption of E-Mail

To better explain what I did, I followed a seemingly simple youtube video that can be seen at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pm_079B4d6s

I downloaded the certificate, as instructed, clicked "OK to add it to my "login" keychain, as instructed at 3:00 into the video and at 3:30 into the video, I did NOT get the two added features to digitally sign or encrypt the email. After relaunching Mail, still nothing.

Then I selected "Mailbox" from the tab and selected "Rebuild"

Still nothing, after relaunching again.

Then, I ran the "Keychain First Aid"

Nothing... (After relaunching Mail)

Then I ran Disk Utility and "Verify" for disk permissions and this is the results of "Verify"

So, The problem might be in this mess, which leads me to another thought... I did not get the OS Disk when I got my Mac (Foolish mistake now!) Does anyone see a quick fix? What would be my next step? I'm thinking, I probably need to order the OS Disk too! Is there another way? Am I missing something?

Mac Mini, Mac OS X (10.5.8)

Your Permissions errors are not the problem, so don't look for something that isn't there. If you have no OS X disc(s), where did you get your Mac? If you bought it from someone else, they are required to furnish all the original discs at the time of sale, so you need to get those.

If you have more than one email account, you should only see the sign and encrypt options for the account under which you have the email certificate.

Those two points are good! Here's the thing, I bought my Mac from www.Apple.com directly and either I didn't opt to purchase the disks or who knows? I really do not remember. I did get a .mac disk for my old .mac account that I purchased.

As for e-mail accounts, I just have the one. So I'm not understanding where the problem lies.

If you bought it from Apple, they always ship the restore discs with them, so they're probably in a square, paper case of some sort in the box. Some or all of them may be grey in color, but you should have it.

Even so, reinstalling Mail won't solve any problem, because there's nothing wrong with Mail; it's something else. Try creating a new User account and setup Mail there to work with your email certificate and see if you experience the same problem.

The permissions problems you see are nothing to be concerned about, as permissions can and do change over time; the OS does this itself when performing certain tasks. The SUID errors are meaningless red herrings; ignore them.

Thank you, I'll try that. I have a feeling it's something simple, a setting, somewhere, that I keep missing. I still can't complain, after all, it's been 2 years since I bought the Mac and this was the first issue, not even a "real" problem!

This experience has made me do some thinking and I have been a serious slacker in backing up everything so I'm in the middle of backing up my important files and then I'll check the settings again in Mail and at GoDaddy where I have my domain name and mail through to see if I am missing something.
