I have a garageband file (.band) that I cannot open - each time I get an error message, as follows:

"The file couldn't be open because it isn't in the correct format. The file might be corrupted, truncated, or in an unexpected format."

Interestingly enough, I can preview it in Finder, but, as I just said, it won't open in garageband.

I just need to know if there is anyway I can open it!

That's probably because you created a Finder preview - that's just an audio mixdown of your file. Probably the alert box was right and your project is corrupted.
If you want to save as much as possible, try to save that audio preview (if you're just interested in the final mix) or the single recording files (http://www.bulletsandbones.com/GB/FAQPages/AIFFsStored.html). There's no way to recover software instrument files from a corrupted project.
