Airport Extreme (Firmware 7.5) FTP Problem

I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on a problem I've been having?

I recently purchased an Airport Extreme Base Station which shipped with Firmware Version 7.5 (not currently available on Apple's Site).

Since installing the router, I've not been able to transfer files using FTP, replace the AEBS with my old Belkin N1 Vision and I can transfer files again.

I have tried using PASV and PORT mode and forwarding port 21 to my Macbook Pro. The AEBS is setup in NAT mode.

According to Apple it is impossible to downgrade the firmware to a version previous to the firmware the product shipped with.

I've seen some reports of earlier firmware (pre 7.1) breaking FTP connections, and it seems the problem has resurfaced with firmware 7.5.

Does anyone have any information on an impending firmware release for the AEBS, or a 'trick' to allow me to downgrade the firmware?

Cheers,

Chris.

So I am not crazy! I am having this problem also, my Time Capsule is on 7.5.1

I switched from a LinkSys running Tomato firmware and the FTP works fine with it. But when I use the Time Capsule I have problems.

I am able to log into the ftp server from the internet, I can browse fine too, but when I go to retrieve or send files it tries but always times out.

Solution?

Version 7.5 is not available on Apple's site, but the updated Version 7.5.1 is available.

Not sure if this will help though, as I notice a similar post to yours on this thread. For what it's worth, Apple recommends that any 7.5 devices should be updated to 7.5.1.

I am having the same issue with my Airport Time Capsule as well. I called Apple and worked with the advisors a few days, sent in some logs, but finally gave up and just shuffled my TC to the back of the network topology so nothing routed through it but backups. Have been a happy camper until today. All of the sudden my Airport Extreme running 7.4.2 firmware has stopped allowing me to authenticate my password with my ISP's ftp service. I can connect, provide a username, but when I try to provide a password I get a 530 Login incorrect even though I can use a web site and verify the credentials are correct. Doesn't work in CyberDuck, or in Terminal using an FTP command. This is very frustrating and anyone that knows a fix I would greatly appreciate it. I guess I will call Apple again tomorrow to discuss as well.

On 7/3/10 I had a DD-WRT router begin to show signs of a problem. I took the opportunity to purchase (at an Apple Retail Store) a new AEBS with v7.5.1.

I setup the router to support my existing LAN, which includes an XServe running Tiger Server.

I have been able to re-establish all my Port Mapped services (eg. Web, Server/Workgroup Admin, mail) successfully.

I have been completely UNABLE to get FTP services to work. I've tried setting up TCP port 21 manually. I added port 20. Tried adding UDP port 21. Deleted both ports 20 and 21, then used the pull down "wizard" in Airport Utility to establish "FTP access".

All in all, no joy. Has anyone been successful getting ftp running thru NAT on the AEBS w/ 7.5.1?
