apcn format

I recently did a "log and transfer' of some footage from a canon camcorder. Some of the files have come across as .mov's and work just fine in FCP. But all the others are of the "Document" type with a generic document icon. FCP & QT don't want to know about them. Even VLC can't play them but at it tells me that they are 'apcn format'. Does anyone know what these are, why they have cropped up, and what I can do to convert them to .mov?
