Compressing photos into a zip or rar file

Hi!

I have a event in my iPhoto gallery which has photos and videos. I can't send that by email because the photos and videos are too big. Compressing them by the Export -> Email feature, won't work because it's a lot of stuff. So I want to compress them (e.g. into a zip or rar file) and put them on a large file site (e.g. RapidShare). How do I do that?

Macbook, Mac OS X (10.6.2)

Don't forget that since jpgs are already a compressed format you won't save much, if anything, by compressing them. I just ran a test on a 2.9 MB jpg file. Compressed via the system (Control-click and select Compress file" resulted in a 2.9 MB zip file. There may be other compression apps out there that could do more with jpgs. You'll have to do some investigation.

OT is right, your typical compression/archive software won't do much for JPEGS.

Look to see if the JPEGS by themselves are small enough for your purposes. If so, use the Rapid share on those.

For the movies, you could try YouTube. If that is not acceptable, you might have to load the movies into iMovie and see what kind of Exports will shrink them to an acceptable size at acceptable quality. QuickTime Pro might also work for that. If the movies are to be viewed on a TV as opposed to a computer, You might try to import your movies into iDVD and make a disk image of the resulting DVD and distribute that.

No need. I already did what I wanted. I wanted to have all the photos and videos on a file, and upload it to rapidshare, because it was too large to send by mail, ad I wanted the photos and videos to go at the same time. Just wanted to know if I could that from the Mail.app or had to export the photos to other place and then compress them. It came out that the iPhoto.app doesn't do that by itself. Well thanks anyway.
