I recently purchased an iMac and would like to be able to send faxes, such as from within a Word document. What is the most efficient way to set up this capability?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.2)

Well the most efficient way to send an MS Word file, or any other file type, would be to just email it.

Mac's like just about every other PC these days do not come with phone modems any more, and as such can not send faxes. So if you really have to send a fax you are going to have to find an external phone modem to add to your Mac, and then find an external app that can use it to send faxes. It would be a lot easier to just get a dedicated fax machine.

There are on-line services that, for a fee, will convert emails to faxes, and faxes back into emails that are sent to you.

You can get the Apple USB modem

Then you can fax from the print menu in any application.
