had 1800 songs on ipod, connected to computer and all songs are deleted??

I had 1800 songs on my ipod, a friend downloaded them onto it for me. I was installing the itunes disc and plugged the ipod into the computer at the same time and now can not find the songs anywhere... Where did they go, I thought if they weren't on the ipod anymore that they've got to be on my computer somewhere, but I can not find any of them. If anyone knows what I've done please help...

When you connect your iPod to one computer and upload your songs then connect it to another c omputer it will ask you if you want to erase your songs and put the songs from that computer onto your iPod.
CLICK NO TO KEEP YOUR SONGS! Then go into options and click on the ipod tab. Choose the update iPod manuly option and click ok. Now u can drag and drop song onto your iPod.

Thanks for your help, I just had one more question if you could help me again. Right now I have no idea where all the songs went, do I have to go back to my friends computer to retrieve them, or are they on my computer somewhere? I don't think I was asked if I wanted to erase the songs, they're just gone. I have looked everywhere I can look on my computer to try to find them saved somewhere else but no luck. You would think 1800 songs wouldn't be too hard to find either. I did see a box that said Autoplay for just a few seconds when I plugged the ipod into my computer the next time that showed some of the songs I had quickly flashing through the box, but then the box disappears and I have no idea what Autoplay is. Any help is appreciated I know this is a hard one. Thanks again.

You are aware that this is completely illegal,
right?

Actually, copying music from your friends really falls under Fair Use.

If you apply the four fair use tests:
1. the purpose and character of the use is not for profit (for)
2. the work is published, but creative (against)
3. the amount is probably only certain songs off the album (for)
4. the effect on the market is small (person to person copying is considered to be a minimal effect on the marketplace, whereas sharing with the entire internet is not) (for)

So really, copying your friends music really passes most of the fair use tests. It might be technically illegal, but it's not a case where anybody could actually sue you and win.

Copyright infringement is allowed in certain cases.

So, for you the only reason not to steal something is
the fact that you might be sued?

The fact that you have almost no chance of being
caught or prosecuted for stealing music doesn't make
it any more acceptable in my book.

Copyright infringement is not "stealing". They are two completely different things. We have different laws regarding the two activities for a reason, you know.

And there are perfectly acceptable reasons to infringement somebody's copyright. Exercising your right to Fair Use is perfectly acceptable in my book.

Don't believe everything you see on TV.

The self righteous attitude regarding the legal usage of this Lemon......I mean Apple product is really quite amusing. I wonder where all of the music from the thousands of Ipods that are daily being returned to Apple for repair is actually going? I'm sure they're just replacing the batteries and formatting the drives. Yeah, that's right, formatting the drives.
