My brother recently purchased a Netgear WB111v3 USB Wireless Adapter for his wife's G4 (10.4). I'm not exactly a newbie, but I cannot seem to set up the network using the system preferences. The Netgear software installed fine, but the adapter is not showing up in the network panel. The built-in ethernet had a flaky connection to their DSL router and the machine has been moved away from it so there can be no ethernet connection anyway. Is there a utility available that will assist in set up or can someone give me the necessary instructions. She's driving us both nuts (my brother and me) to get this connected to the internet. (The machine is old yes, but the hardware is a tank and still works.)
This stick is basicly designed for Windows etc. but they say it works well with a Mac. Try this:
Works with Mac® OS 10.3 and above, driver available at www.netgear.com
Yes, I downloaded the driver from a working PC on the network, transferred it to the mac via flash drive and installed it, but I still see no USB adapter in the network pane, I'm searching the netgear forums for answers also.
I run the same stick (adapter) at a Windows PC. Sometimes it does not connect to the router. What does always help, is to pull it simply out and in again after some seconds.
And what about searching for the adapter using an IP scanner? To know its IP address would make it easier to "find" the adapter.
Well, don`t give up.
did you get it to work? my Airport has been acting flaky so i bought this same stick today and could not get it configured to connect. it would connect into my router (a Belkin) but i never could get access to the internet...
for some reason it would not pick up an IP address, so i don't think it was really talking to the router even...
