My vista is in 32-bit. Yes, I also using iTunes, but iTunes doesn't have any problem

Okay ... rather than trying to open QuickTime from one of the shortcuts, try going into C:\Program Files\QuickTime and clicking on the sample mov file in there. Does that play properly?

(I'm wondering if you've got a problem here with QuickTime trying to access the content guide on start-up.)

what do you mean by 'got a problem here with QuickTime trying to access the content guide on start-up.'?

Sorry, that was a bit cryptic. By dfault when opening QuickTime it goes to the content guide. It goes online to get the information in the content guide. So if a firewall rule (say) is blocking QuickTime access to the internet, QuickTime can refuse to load when launched from the Startup/Desktop icons. But since QuickTime itself is fully functional, iTunes will often launch under those circumstances. That seemed to be fitting your symptoms.

But in those cases, often people can get QuickTime to launch if they open a local QuickTime-readible file on the PC. (Because QuickTime doesn't go to the content guide under those circumstances.)

We'd still better check on security software (given that your iTunes is currently launching).

What security software do you have installed on the PC? (Firewall, antivirus, antispyware?)

currently I'm using ESET NOD32 antivirus, I don't think that antivirus is blocking QT?

Hmmm. You're right that it wouldn't be blocking QuickTime, but realtime scans of the QuickTime program files might be causing issues. (We get a reasonable amount of that reported with iTunes and ESET's NOD32 and Smart Security.)

By way of experiment, try excluding the C:\Program files\QuickTime\ directory from NOD32 scans. Restart the PC and try another QuickTime launch. Any better luck under those circumstances?

🙂 No need to apologise, Eve. Exclusions aren't something we need to deal with on a regular basis.

Fingers crossed, the following ESET article will help. The folder we want to exclude is C:\Program Files\QuickTime
