Computer boots twice or three times before turning on.

Hi all

Recently, when I turn on my 1.8 Ghz PowerPC G5, it restarts when getting to the apple logo and sometimes restarts even for a third time until it then starts up and works fine. Also, as I turn it on, there are lines flashing on the display, looks like interference from something, but once the computer turns on, these lines fade away and the computer works perfectly fine.

Afraid that one day the computer just wont start or something.

Any ideas on why this is happening and how I can stop it?

Yes, well, it happens like this.

I turn it on in the morning, it will get to the apple logo and the screen has these lines flashing on it like there is a phone cellphone ringing next to it or something(but there isn't) and then before getting to the log in step, it will restart by itself, and then it will get to the login stage after restarting itself, but recently its been restarting a third time.

It sounds like the graphics card might be loose. Have you opened it up and tried pulling out and then reinserting the graphics card? While you are in there if you haven't done so lately you may want to blow out the dust.

Haven't opened it up yet but I'll open up in the next few hours and get back to you.

One more thing, you mind describing the graphics card for me as I am a new new mac user and have no idea what I am looking for.

Hey there,

I just took a look at the PDF instructions, I am not sure if this will change your theory about what is wrong, but I have a different MAC to that, this is mine, wondering where I could find instructions on how to open my one up?

Unfortunately you have posted in the wrong forum. I will see what I can do about getting this post moved.

You will get more appropriate help in the iMac G5 forum, as this forum is dedicated to the Power PC towers. You have an iMac.

Since this is an iMac, you very well could be having a power supply that is about to fail. Is this computer by any chance plugged into a UPS? If so, have you tried bypassing the UPS?

Had no idea about being in the incorrect forum, my apologies.

Its not plugged into a UPS, just directly into a multiplug socket but I will try and replace that and see if it helps, doubt it though. My power supply going failing, is that a huge deal to replace and should I replace it before it stops working or blows as will this damage the iMac anymore.
