My screen has a cloud or ghost like ring in the middle

The screenshot pretty much speaks for itself.

Its only visible with dark colours.

Any ideas?

I bought it just before the latest model MBP came out so its just out of warranty, not sure if its the led screen itself or a problem with the graphics card. It would suggest its the screen though as its directly where the apple window light is on the case (also resembles the shape).

Im very careful with it, never dropped or been outside and its in a a/c room so never in a humid environment.

My niece had something similar on her original MBP, and she was told that it was the result of pressure being exerted on the display, like would happen if it were carried in a bag with books. Can you think of any circumstance where your Mac might have been pressured, possibly while in its bag?

My guess is that this is a problem with the display rather than with the graphics card. Have you tried an external display? Graphics card problems tend to also manifest themselves on an external display.

This does not look like the typical spot that you see when there is a bright light shining from the other side of the display. You can certainly cover up the apple with something opaque to eliminate any possibility of this artifact being related to anything shining through the it.

Since the apple is in the middle of the display, it may also represent a point at which external pressure could cause more deflection, and possibly do some damage.

You might try running the extended version of the Apple Hardware test, just in case something might show up in the form of an error code.

Similar patterns have been reported here several times in the past. Take the machine for inspection at an Apple Store. It isn't clear to me whether this is always the result of undue pressure on the back of the display panel or whether there are other possible causes.

I booked an appointment at an apple store yesterday and they couldnt really say what the problem was with the screen. However the guy ran an nvidia graphics test while i was there and it turns out there was something wrong with that so when that is getting replaced so is the lcd, i was told both are seperate issues and not linked. Im amazed at the great customer care apple provide.
