your Touch will never show up in My Computer (nor in the Mac finder) because it has no "disk mode" like other iPods.

No you cannot.
You will need a 3rd party application to get songs off the iPod.
Any reason you deleted them from your iTunes but did not maintian a copy of these songs elsewhere?

You could try contacting the iTunes Music Store Customer Service and you might be able to persuade them to sanction a second free download. There have been occasional reports in the iTunes forum of this happening, however just be aware that they are not under any obligation to do so. My 32 G iPod touch, after operating well with my Windows 7 computer, began showing a USB cord with an arrow going to an iTunes logo. It will not show anything else. I have followed the instructions to remove QuickTime, Remove Apple Software update, tried to remove Apple mobile device support (was never successful), removed Bonjour, removed Apple Application Support. Reinstalled--still have the strange logo. Any suggestions? Right now, the thing is useless. What else to do?

I have once again gone through and tried to uninstall all of the components. When I got to the instructions to verify iTunes and related components are completely uninstalled, in the c:\Program Files (x86) Common Files, I found an Apple folder which would not let me delete because it said that it was in use in another program. What on earth is going on?

That simply means you need to plug it in and launch iTunes.

iTunes is launched and it IS plugged in. The logo is there whether it is plugged into the computer or not.

There is no way to make the Touch show up in My Computer. Refer to the links in the early posts in this thread for advice on how to get songs off of the Touch. You'll need additional software.
