Is there a way to change a setting on the iPhone 3GS to make it that when I am texting and my phone is sideways that it does not automatically change to landscape? as in when i am laying on my side trying to text and the screen automatically goes to landscape, so that it does not appear upright to me.
There are no settings for the orientation of the iPhone. It generally will orientate itself with whatever is up. The only thing you can try is to tilt the iPhone on its side and then when you are on your side tilt the iPhone upsidedown. The only orientation the iPhone won't go in is upside down so if you are lucky the iPhone will remain the the previous landscape mode. I haven't tried it with the text app but it is working as I write this...
The accelerometer is always active and there are no settings for it.
If you really don't want it maybe you could drop the phone...?... I'm sure something else would break before the accelerometer would break though so I wouldn't actually throw or drop the phone...
