removing letterboxing

I have some clips I have inported and they were letterboxed. Is there any way to remove the letterboxing from those clips or am i going to have to re-import them?

Hi T.:

I don't thin you can remove it once it is imported that way. But letterboxing begins as soon as you switch from Camera mode to Edit mode and click on a clip. To keep this from happening next time, don't switch modes after you’ve imported your video. Don't to the "Edit" mode, stay in Camera mode. Save the project, quit iMovie, and turn off the camera. When you reopen the project, the video will stay 16:9.

I believe I read that in David Pogue's Missing Manual book-so I'm sure it works..

How do I remove letterboxing from a photo? In iPhoto the picture was not letterboxed and in iMovieHD apparently the only way to get a clear picture is to import in in HD mode after cropping it with the KB effect. OK, the picture now comes in clear but it is letterboxed. Am left with the choice of blurry pictures in DV modes or clear but letterboxed pictures in HD mode?
I appreciate any advice.
