"The iPod "iPod" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (2002)."

I just bought the new update for $4.95 and afterward it said "iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes." I tried doing this and then the message in the title appeared, "The iPod "iPod" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (2002)."

I have the latest version of iTunes and I've tried restarting the computer. I've tried restoring it several times but it never works.

I literally begged my dad to let me buy the new update (it's his credit card number) and then this happens. Now my iPod Touch (1st gen) doesn't even work. Please, how can I fix this?

Try a "force restore" of the Touch:

1. Launch iTunes and have your iPod cable connected to the computer (but do not connect the Touch).

2. Hold down the Touch's Home and Sleep buttons at the same time. This will force the Touch screen to fade and the Apple Logo to reappear. KEEP holding the two buttons down until the Touch's screen goes black.

3. Once the screen is black, release the Sleep button but *keep holding down the Home button* while you plug the cable into the Touch. Contunue holding the Home button until the you see the iTunes logo and the picture of the cable on the Touch screen. This may take up to 30 seconds.

4. iTunes should now detect the Touch and you can perform a Restore.
