i was trying to let my friend hear a song and i gave here the internet URL in the share tab and she cant get it..... now since then i have figured out that it will play if i connect straight into my modem but it wont work through the airport extreme... i did exactly what the nicecast manual said to do to open the port but it still wont work and i "check" the server on the share tab and it keeps saying it cant connect

i'm having issues also with nicecast. >.<
help me!!

ok. so what i'm confused is-- is nicecast as easy as installing, doing the set-up and connecting? bc that's not working. Let me tell you what i've done.

I've followed instructions in both the nicecast manual AND winamp and other forums that show how to set-up nicecast.

I've also opened the firewall for nicecast.
I've also opened the 8000-8001 ports. it was already a setting that i could choose on my belkin router.
I've set-up a listen2myradio.com account. I have the broadcasting URL and have set that up as a new server w the password.

But the error i get is:
Nicecast server cannot connect:
The server could not be reached. Please check that it is running, then see the LAN Troubles page in the Nicecast manual or click Help for more details.

I've gone through all the troubleshooting in the Nicecast manual for Lan Troubles, and it still doesn't resolve.

Did i Need to set-up something else? And if it requires setting up SC_SERV.config or SC_Trans.config files.... i need some serious help. O.O i don't know how to do that. i would need hand held step by step instructions.

Thanks!

guys you need to allow port access on your routers - port 8000 - 8001.

the instructions on nicecast do explain very clearly how to do this!

but this is the basic's for using apple's airport:

Router Port Mapping/Port Forwarding/Virtual Server Overview (Example using AirPort Base Station)
1. Open up the admin software on your router. For an AirPort Base Station, you'll use the AirPort Admin Utility, found in /Applications/Utilities.
2. Find the port mapping configuration panel (which may instead be named port forwarding or virtual servers, depending on your router). In Airport Admin Utility, select your Base Station, click Configure, then click the Port Mapping tab.
3. Add a new port mapping to the machine on your LAN which is doing the broadcasting. You'll need to map public port 8000 to private port 8000, on the machine's LAN IP. In AirPort Admin Utility, click Add, put port 8000 in the two port fields and the IP of the machine which will be broadcasting in the Private Address field. Click Ok, then click Update. Note that this forwarding only needs to be TCP, you can leave UDP alone.

Details
A router takes traffic from the Internet and sends it to your LAN. The machine which is running Nicecast needs to receive all the requests for port 8000 (by default) which are coming in from the Internet. Port forwarding/port mapping/virtual servering allows this traffic to go where it's needed, so listeners can connect to your stream.

When you opened up nicecast for the first time you would have been presented with a message... it said something like "allow nicecast incoming traffic?"
if you clicked 'no' you would have blocked this application in os x firewall - you will need to allow incoming traffic for this app, and possibly specify the ports 8000-8001...

hope this helps... any more questions let me know!
