Apple.com very very slow to load since iPad release....

I'm not blaming the iPad!

But ever since the first page at apple.com was the iPad promo the page takes forever to load.

It is the same for me using Firefox.

But at work using IE on a WinXP machine there is no problems.

I've tried deleting all the apple.com cookies.

Any ideas ??

Hi Murray,

Do not use Snow Leopard Cache Cleaner for your browsers. It is for system maintenance. It is 3rd party software not written by Apple.

For Safari maintenance...

From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache. When you are done with that...

From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset.

Go here for trouble shooting 3rd party plugins or input managers which might be causing the problem.

Make sure Safari is running in 32-bit mode. Right or control click the Safari icon in the Applications folder, then click: Get Info In the Get Info window click the black disclosure triangle next to General so it faces down. Select 32 bit mode. Also, (in that same window) make sure Safari is NOT running in Rosetta.

Download and install the 10.6.2 combo update which incudes several Safari fixes. It's ok to do this even though you are already running 10.6.2.

If Safari still crashes, go to the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari/Preferences. Make note of all the preferences under each tab. Quit Safari. Now go to ~/Library/Preferences and move this file com.apple.safari.plist to the Desktop. Relaunch Safari. If it's a successful launch, then that .plist file needs to be moved to the Trash.

Thanks for the reply Carolyn.

I'm thinking that must be your standard Safari troubleshooting reply which you may have cut and paste from another topic.

I used the 10.6.2 combo updater...as I always use the combo updaters.

Safari is not crashing.

I'm not having trouble with 3rd party plugins.

I tried booting Safari in 32 bit mode before my first post and it made no difference.

As I said in the first post, it is only the Apple page with the sexy iPad morphing graphics which is slow to load. and it is the same on Firefox 3.6.

The only thing I haven't tried is resetting safari which I will try next.

cheers

Can't speak for the MACs, but I had this problem with my Dell Vista PC using IE8 - very slow loading pages on the apple.com website and browser unresponsive until each page completely loads. I isolated the problem to the Add-On "QuickTimeCheckClass" which loaded when visiting the apple.com website. I disabled this Add-on and the problem went away. This same Add-On was also used on a few other websites, but with it disabled, I have not had any problems with any of the sites.
Hope this helps.

This doeasn't appear to be an exact science.
The way I isolated the add-on (QuickTimeCheck Class)that was causing the issue on my PC, was to look at the loaded add-ons prior to opening the Apple website. Then I checked to see which add-on loaded after I went to the website and it was then I discovered this add-on had loaded. I disabled it and the issue went away. However, if you don't have this add-on, you may want to check to see if another add-on maybe gets loaded when visiting the Apple site. Another way is to disable each add-on one at a time to see if one of them is the problem, but of course this will take some time depending on how many add-ons are installed.
