Empty trash takes too long

Since using this 27" iMac, I find it takes too long to empty the trash. Last time, when I tried to empty a few gigatype files in trash, it took about 30 mins. Today it took roughly 10 min to empty the trash with 400 files - around 1 gigebype.

Is this a hardware problem? My MBP doesn't have such problem at all. It is very fast to empty trash on MBP.

Thanks.

Click on Finder -> Preferences and check to see if "Empty Trash securely" is checked.

That option, if it's turned on, causes Mac OS X to zero out the area of the drive where the deleted file was stored. This prevents recovery of the file by any means except very high end forensic analysis.

Unless you have a pretty darn good reason to worry about that sort of thing, I'd turn it off.
