smart playlist missing on iphone

I discovered the same problem over the weekend - however I discovered it too late when I was in the gym about to watch my music videos. To say it was annoying is an understatement! I have sent a message to Apple via the link in an earlier reply and suggest any of you who have this problem does likewise so Apple can jump on this an correct this problem. Viva la Revolucion!

The most recent iTunes update had this as a fix, but my smart playlists are still not showing up. I even unchecked, synced, re-checked, and synced again. Grr...

Thanks for this! My Top Rated smart playlist went missing (of course, of all the playlists to go it was my favorites) and I made a second smart playlist as you had described. As in shukip's case, the new playlist didn't show up after sync but the one that was missing did.

My smart playlists show up, but are all out of order, can't fix them no matter what. They are in the right order on my ipod, but iphone is all messed up. Any fixes for this?

Same here, smart playlist called "2010 2 - February" doesn't sync BUT smart playlist called "2010 February 2010" does!

I have a genre related 3.1.3 issue too, but strangely enough I have 4 genre smart playlists:

Electronic - Appears on iPhone but no displays the "no Music" page
PoP - Doesn't appear at all
Rock - Appears and has all songs????
R&B - Appears but no displays the "no Music" page

All have the same criteria, have checked and unchecked the "match only checked items" but no change
Added "Media Kind - IS - Music" and they appears, except 'Pop' which still doesn't appear, recreated 'Pop2' with identical criteria and it appears.

I'm sure this will be fixed by Apple, I think everyone is over-reacting how bad Apple is with updates... Buy a Zune and see me in the morning!

Update after update they break functionalities.
Smartlists used to work really well in OS 2.2, since 3.0 it's pure hassle 😟

My question is, what about regression tests ?
They've been working on smarlists recently, but didn't even check if their update was working or not.

They seem to be so blindly involved in their fight against jailbreaking that they don't even care about satisfying their customers.

What I need is a device with stable functionalities, that do not randomly disappear from an update to another, or at least a clear description of what's been changed in each OS update, in order to decide wether to apply it or not.

iPhone is a great product, but Apple has to be more professional with it's customers. You cannot claim being the best and act just like the others,

Unless you are NASA, there is no such thing as bug-free software. If you are so unhappy with your iPhone, then you are free to switch to another phone. You probably won't like it as much as your iPhone, bugs and all.

I'm not saying it's okay for there to be bugs in software, but please look at this realistically. No amount of complaining to postulating about why there are bugs is going to fix the issue at hand. You will have to trust that the developers are working on the issue, and you can vent your displeasure directly at http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html . It is laughable to assert that developers such as the ones at Apple do not test their software before release or that they have other priorities than providing world-class software.

This work-around (adding a criterion) did not work for me. Nor did (2) unchecking live update, or (3) deleting and making a new smart playist. It's weird that the playlist name appears under the iPhone on iTunes but not on the phone itself. Quite annoying. Unless there was some urgency because of security or something, Apple definitely failed to do sufficient quality control on this release.

Same thing here. When you guys talk about turning off "live update," are you talking about unchecking "Automatically sync when this iPhone is connected," or something else?

No, it's a option in the smart playlist properties. Just edit the playlist and you'll see it, in the left bottom of the window.

Simply to add further weight to the number of users experiencing this problem in the hope that it might prompt and upgrade that will fix it, I have experienced exactly the same prob as everyone else is describing (my most frequently played playlist has disappeared from my iPhone even though it is still in iTunes).

No amount of syncing, unticking and ticking has helped. All the music is on the phone but not the playlist. PLEASE fix this soon Apple!
