Mini Display to HDMI philips LCD

Hi,
I have connected my MBP to my TV: Mini DisplayPort Adapter to an extension cable which is DVI on one side and HDMI on the other side. This works when i boot in boot camp (windows xp). When i try it in Mac OS snow Leopard a "no video signal"-text appears on the TV. The screen on my MBP turns blue for less then a second. On screen settings in my MBP no TV appears, only the laptop screen, so I can't change anything there.
The TV is a brand new Full-HD Philips 42'' 5000 series.
Anybody knows a solution?

Hi,
Which HDMI port i use shouldn't make any difference, but just to be sure i have tested all. And nothing happens.
Since the TV is 5 days old and of a new model, the plug-and-play should be installed i guess.
You think I should go and buy a mini-dvi->Dvi adapter instead of the mini display->Dvi adapter I use now? Would i make any difference?
