Downloads don't appear in Downloads window

Anyone had this problem before?

Whenever I download something, the DL starts and actually gets done, but the "Downloads" window remains empty. It pops up as it should and the download count at the bottom increases by one, but nothing appears in the window, so I can't follow the progress.

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.5.8)

HI,

Try maintenance.

From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache. When you are done with that...

From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset.

Go here for trouble shooting 3rd party plugins or input managers which might be causing the problem.

Make sure Safari is not running in Rosetta. Right or control click the Safari icon in your Applications folder then click Get Info. In the Get Info window click the black disclosure triangle so it faces down. Where you see Open using Rosetta... make sure that is NOT selected.

Most web pages now include a small icon or 'favicon' which is visible in the address bar and next to bookmarks. These icons take up disk space and slow Safari down. *To delete Safari's icon cache using the Finder, open your user folder, navigate to ~/Library/Safari/ and move this file "webpageIcons.db to the Trash.

Relaunch Safari.

If you still have problems downloading files, go to ~/Library/Safari and move the Downloads.plist file to the Trash. Relaunch Safari.

Also, sometimes just rebooting your Mac can help.

HI,

Speed Download is the problem.

Try ~/Library/Internet Plugins Uninstall Speed Download. The uninstaller should be in the folder that you downloaded Speed Download to.

The tilde "~" character represents your home folder.

I experienced the same problem. After reading other posts regarding solving problems surrounding the Safari Downloads window I removed /Library/Safari/Downloads.plist . Upon reopening Safari the Downloads window was clear. I then double clicked the file I was downloading before the anomaly, in my Downloads folder in my home folder (ends with .download), Safari then reloaded it and picked it up right where it left off. Problem solved.
