Multifunction Printer for Mac

Trying to find a Multifunction (fax, scan, print) printer for a small business use that will actually fax to computer. Every Brother and HP multifunction I've checked only supports this feature for Windows PC's and not Mac OS.

And this info is only available by checking the user manuals since its not stated in the tech specs (despite all saying they were mac compatible).

I really need this feature but don't want to spend hours perusing online user manuals. Hoping someone has a good multifunction running on their mac that will fax to computer

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.2)

You may be struggling to find a AIO for the home that can do this. The paperless office goes a bit against the printer vendor manta. The machines sell so cheaply that they want you to print everything you receive so you use more ink/toner to make more money 😉

The reception of the received fax into the Mac will depend on the software included for the device. I've seen this function in the SOHO market for Windows but the Mac always seemed to have missed out on this feature with the low-end devices.

At least there are now more devices that can fax from the Mac. This wasn't the case a few years ago. The Canon MF series has a fax driver that will allow "PC-faxing". But it certainly cannot receive the fax back into the Mac. This sort of thing is available for office MFD's, where they can re-direct incoming faxes to email or a shared network folder. But you need to spend a considerable amount to get this.

I was going to suggest you check out Brother, as they have a good reputation for having Mac software equivalent to what they offer for Windows. But then I saw that you had already made comment about them so the only thing I can suggest is you look at faxing software for the Mac.

You may want to consider the many efax solutions. I don't want to plug any particular one, but I use myfax and it works well for me. You'll have to weigh the costs, but it does exactly what you wish. Send fax by emailing pdfs, and receive faxes by email as pdf. Apple pdf capabilities and annotations in Preview make this very easy and useful. If signatures are required you have to print the signature pages, sign them and scan (preview can assemble the pages together if you wish).

At a previous time I used a fax modem attached to a windows server to send/receive faxes and store received faxes electronically. However, you still need an MFC printer so you can scan documents that require signatures etc so I find the fax services more convenient.

Note you cannot connect two fax devices, say an MFC and fax modem, to the same line as they will answer each other :-0
