Error compressing files

I'm getting the following error when I try to compress a folder in finder:

"An error occurred while compressing a file"

Are there any known bugs in the compress function?

G5, Mac OS X (10.6)

No. However, I suspect a faulty file. Try copying it and compressing the copy.

Welcome to Apple's discussion groups.

There may be something quirky about one or more of those files. I'd create a new folder, then hold down an "option" key while you drag the original folder into the new folder so that the Finder copies all the files. If the copy is successful, then my theory is ruled out and you can delete the new folder.

By the way, your configuration details show "G5" and "10.6", which is an impossible combination, at least on the same computer.

run the following terminal command

dot_clean -m path/to/folder

put the correct path to the folder in question in the command. the easiest way to get it is to drag the folder to the terminal window. make sure all the spaces in the command are there as given. see if you can compress the folder after that.
