First try this.... from your Safari menu choose "Reset Safari".

If that doesn't do it, try Safe Mode (It will take more time to startup in Safe Mode because it runs a directory check.)

If your browser functions correctly that way, go to System Preferences >> Accounts >> Login Items, and remove them. Boot normally and test. If not go to Users/(yourname)/Library /Contextual Menu Items and move whatever is there to the desktop. Then do the same with /Library/ Contextual Menu Items. Lastly, try moving ~(yourHome)/Library/ Fonts to your desktop and restarting.

Log out/in or restart, if that sorts it start putting items back one at a time until you find the culprit.

Ok I've tried the first step and still got a spinning wheel yesterday.

The only things in my startup items is the itunes helper, and quicksilver, and it was doing it before i installed quicksilver so i don't think that it will be that causing the problem.

I noticed it often happens when I'm browsing with multiple tabs open and one of them (not the one im using at the time) is facebook, and I get a chat message. It freezes up for about 5-10 seconds and when it un-freezes, I get the "pop" from receiving the message.
