Hi there, I'm not sure why but after making a screen recording in quicktime I was unable to place the file as an import into my final cut sequence and kept getting an unknown error. I then went to imovie and exported the screen recording to a PAL setting which I could then place in final cut but this was quite a loopy way of doing things plus lost a lot of the sharpness by exporting through imovie?
QuickTime records in a format that is not supported in FCE. You can convert the media using MPEG Streamclip. You might be better off converting it to an HD format.
Well, try “iShowU HD”... or else...(Snapz Pro / ScreenFlow / Camtasia for Mac)
http://www.shinywhitebox.com/home/home.html One can output directly for FCE using Apple Intermediate Codec...
it's not free, but you could use IShowU HD Pro and make screen capture movies that can be dropped right in the timeline. The cheaper versions would work too, but would need conversion to a FCE codec in QuickTime Player or MPEG Streamclip.
Hi Did you get an answer to this. I am trying the same. I have used screenflow, IshowU and others and also tried exporting quicktime screen recordings to FCE using streamclip but in every instant the quality is poor. There must be a way to make a video using high quality screen recordings? Any help welcome! Chris
FCE works at a limited number of fixed resolutions which correspond to televisions rather than computer displays. Your screen capture recordings are adjusted to the resolution of the FCE Sequence in which you're working. Make the dimensions of your screen capture conform to one of the FCE Easy Setups and you'll get good results.
