Question

keyboard shortcut for returning cursor to top left, as in a spreadsheet?

Is there a keyboard shortcut for this? A friend who switched from PC to Mac asked me, but I don't know the answer.

iMac 24", Mac OS X (10.6.2), 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo; 1 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM

Excel for Mac. But if there's a keyboard shortcut, wouldn't it work for all apps?

Not necessarily, since most apps have their own set of keyboard shortcuts outside what Apple's defined as universal ones, such as open, save, cut, copy, and paste. However, in most apps, the home and end keys work appropriately, including Excel '04.

I'm not sure if he has a Home key; he has a laptop, and I think that key is only on the extended keyboard? I'll have to ask.

If not, is there a key combination that will substitute, or a way of creating a custom key combination to accomplish the same?

Does Home merely go to the top of the page, or specifically top left?

Ask your friend. I don't have a laptop. Better, have him post here. AFAICT, home goes to the upper left-hand corner.
