Could not contact Software update server

I'm not sure if this is an itunes or ipod issue, but I'm guessing itunes because I get the error with both ipods in the household.
I can upgrade the itunes software fine. I can connect to the internet fine (duh, I'm posting this) & I can connect & purchase songs from the itunes store fine. HOWEVER. when I connect an ipod and try to update the ipod software I get the following error message:
"itunes could not contact the ipod software update server because you are not connected to the internet. Make sure your internet connection is active and try again"
this happened with both the nano's we have (gen 4 & 5). I played around with firewall & security setting with no success. This happen on itune version 8 and is still happening with an upgrade to version 903

I can sych the ipods fine & ad new playlists & songs with no problem.

I also get the same message when I try to Restore the ipod.

anyone have any ideas?

With that one, try the following document. (If the relevant box is already checked, try unchecking and rechecking it and clicking OK.)
